cosecha del desierto (in progress)

At the end of the 19th century, the Argentine state and army used this narrative of 'the desert' to justify genocide. They claimed these lands were unproductive, empty, and uninhabited, and that the people living here weren't truly 'people.' They used this to rationalize massacres, conquest, and the incorporation of these territories into the Argentine state, all under the guise of bringing 'progress and civilization.' This harmful narrative still persists today. Many genuinely believe these lands are unfit for production, or that their only future lies with mining and extractive projects from the Global North.

But there is hope; there is another side to this story. There are small experiences and family projects where organizations, cooperatives, groups, or individuals are producing food. They are demonstrating that it's possible to regenerate the land and live better. I want to show who they are, how they do it, and why. I also want to put these two narratives in tension and build a multimedia map where these stories can be read and accessed.
